Understand Valley of the Kings tickets, entrance prices and extra tomb fees, including Tutankhamun, before planning your Luxor visit.
Your standard Valley of the Kings ticket includes entry to three tombs from the available selection. It does not give you access to every tomb in the valley. Some, including Tutankhamun’s, have separate tickets, so it helps to decide what you want to see before setting your budget. www.experienceegypt.eg
For a first visit, start with a simple question: are you coming to explore several royal tombs, or is there one particular tomb you would be disappointed to miss? That choice matters more than buying the largest number of tickets.
What does the standard ticket include?
The regular entrance ticket lets you visit three tombs from those available under general admission. Tombs open on a rotating basis to help protect their wall paintings, according to Egypt’s official tourism website. A list from someone else’s trip may therefore differ from your choices on the day. www.experienceegypt.eg
Keep a shortlist rather than a fixed itinerary. Check which tombs are open when you visit, then choose from the available options.
You can build a rewarding visit around the standard ticket. Extra tickets make sense when they give you access to something you particularly want to see.

For example, standard admission plus Tutankhamun’s tomb comes to EGP 1,450 per foreign adult at these published rates.
Different visitor categories have different tariffs. If you qualify for a student ticket, check the eligibility requirements and accepted identification before relying on the reduced price.
Is Tutankhamun’s tomb worth the extra ticket?
If seeing the site of Tutankhamun’s famous discovery is a priority, the additional ticket may be an easy decision.
Go with the right expectations, though. The ministry describes his tomb as relatively small compared with other royal tombs in the valley, with decoration confined to the burial chamber walls. Its fame does not come from having the longest corridors or the most extensive decoration. egymonuments.gov.eg
Think about what interests you. If it is Tutankhamun himself and the story of the discovery, this may be the extra visit you want. If you are mainly interested in decorated chambers and ceilings, compare the other available tombs before deciding.
What about Ramesses VI and Seti I?
Ramesses VI’s tomb is worth considering if you are interested in ancient Egyptian beliefs about the afterlife. The ministry’s description highlights astronomical scenes and texts across its ceilings. Its published separate admission price is EGP 220 for foreign adults. egymonuments.gov.eg
Seti I’s tomb involves a much larger spending decision, with a published separate ticket price of EGP 2,000 for foreign adults. Treat it as a deliberate addition to your visit rather than something to buy simply because it is offered. egymonuments.gov.eg
You do not need to collect every extra ticket. Choose the tombs that match your interests and leave yourself time to appreciate them.
Are entrance tickets included in a guided tour?
Check the exact inclusions of the tour you are booking. A visit to the Valley of the Kings, standard admission and access to separately ticketed tombs are different things.
When considering a private Valley of the Kings tour, ask which entrance tickets are included and whether your preferred extra tombs can fit into the itinerary.
Three useful questions are:
Does the quoted price include standard Valley of the Kings admission?
Are Tutankhamun or other separately ticketed tombs included?
Is there time for the extra tombs I want to visit?
Getting those answers before booking makes it easier to compare the total cost and the time available.
How should you fit the tombs into your Luxor day?
Decide how much of your day you want to spend on the tombs before adding more stops.
If the Valley of the Kings is your main reason for visiting Luxor, build the day around it. If you also want to see Karnak or Luxor Temple, consider how those visits fit together rather than treating every attraction as a quick stop.

Before you buy
Check the available tombs, choose any separately ticketed visits you want, and confirm what your tour already includes. Keep the published entrance prices separate from your transport and guiding budget so you can understand the overall cost.
